The next morning, we woke up early and head to the river to witness the spectacle! After about an hour of photographing and ending up with no photographs to write home about, this lady decided that she too would like a morning bath. I don't remember what I thought of this photo when I just made it. But looking at it on the computer back home, I wished that the motorcycle wasn't there. But then I said, "Wait a minute! The motorcycle only adds to the humor!" People, animals and motorcycles are all cleansed in the holy waters of Hampi! |

Girish Menon India Nominee "Similarities" Sitting at a beach shack in Goa in 2009, I watched them bathe buffalos and thought that I must photograph it sometime. In January 2014, I was waiting for my brunch when a buffalo charged into the sea for his bath. We were just back from a birding trip through the Zuari river. I was tired and hungry. I could feel my mind wanting to go and make the picture but my body wanted food. Nevertheless, I marched along the 400 odd meters to get to the heart of the action and along the way, I passed this couple who were least interested in the buffalo activity. As I stood there making photographs, their curiosity increased and they turned towards the buffalo while I made this photograph. |
