Ben Gasser
USA Nominee Architectural Amateur "Untitled (7)" Ben Gasser is a lifelong resident of the Kansas City metro area and is currently residing in Overland Park, Kansas. As a young man Ben’s father William Gasser had been an avid amateur photographer. He was very active in the Kansas City Camera Club, and had won many awards in local and state photography competitions. In the home, the Gasser’s had a darkroom and many different types of cameras. Although Ben has no recollection of his father taking pictures, the memory of prints, negatives, equipment and awards has always been in the back of his mind. Eventually his father’s interest moved on to other endeavors such as sailing, competitive shooting and hunting. Growing up, Ben’s family traveled across the country by car, with camper in tow. It was during those trips Ben developed a love for the National Parks and the outdoors. This love has transformed how he and his family take vacations and spend free time. All four of his children have developed a love for the outdoors. Ben’s passion for photography started nearly 20 years ago after winning a Nikon camera in a computer sales contest. The Nikon camera did not prove to spark a real interest in taking pictures but did start a long journey in visualization. As Ben traveled the area for work and pleasure he would always be looking at different situations with an eye towards a photographic image. Living in Kansas City provides Ben with four seasons of photographic possibilities as well as the ability to shoot either rural landscape scenes or urban cityscape scenes. By looking at the scope of his work you certainly can see a love for both. Inspiration for Ben's work comes from his father, Ansel Adams, Kevin Sink, Peter Lik and others. Ben makes his living providing technical services to small businesses around the Kansas City area. |
