USA Nominee Fine Art Amateur "Into Oblivion" Woman entering Colonial Mansion My interest in photography as an art form is very recent, perhaps the last ten years and evidenced as an accelerated passionate interest in the last five. My first camera, a film camera was purchased to take mainly family and travel pictures. I shot in program mode as I did not want to spend time learning how to choose exposure correctly. The results of course were quite unspectacular and depended on the drugstore development center and the speed of film I chose. It was not until I was gifted a small Digital camera that I realized the benefits of being able to adjust settings. I used the work of other famous photographers as well as art to guide my photography. I have always had a love of art but have no talent to paint. I hold the art works of the Dutch Golden Age, especially Vermeer in the greatest respect or awe. I saw there that photos of ordinary people in their everyday lives make great subjects. Lately I have embraced abstract expressionism in choosing what I shoot. |
