"Drop your Weapon 4"
"Drop Your Weapon" is a photography series that delves into the profound emotional aftermath of injustice, particularly inspired by the tragic event of Philando Castille's
senseless execution by a Minnesota police officer. As an award-winning photographer, I felt compelled to respond to this egregious act, which shook the conscience of our
society. What struck me most deeply was not only the brutality of the act itself but the harrowing presence of Philando Castille's girlfriend and her toddler daughter in the car at the time of his murder.
To witness such an abhorrent act unfold in the presence of a child adds an additional layer of despair and injustice to an already heartbreaking situation. The corrupt actions
of the police officer not only robbed Philando Castille of his life but also irrevocably altered the lives of his loved ones, including his girlfriend and her daughter.
With this series, I confront the viewer with the piercing question: who wouldn't they shoot? Through visual storytelling reminiscent of the profound imagery of Jesus on the cross, I invite viewers to contemplate the pervasive effects of systemic injustice and to
confront the urgent need for accountability and change within our society.
"Drop Your Weapon" serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked power and the imperative of seeking justice for those whose voices have been silenced. It is my hope that through these photographs, we can ignite meaningful conversations and inspire action towards a more equitable and compassionate world.
