Driven by a deep concern for the world’s pressing issues, Marjolein van Veen works as a photographic artist on projects that explore our relationship with the world around us. Guided by wonder and intuition, she seeks to reveal hidden and often mysterious layers of life. | Her current work invites us to become aware of a new era: the Symbiocene — a time in which humanity and nature are no longer seen as separate, but as part of an equal and harmonious interdependence. Through her images, she explores what it might mean to reconnect with this relationship and to experience ourselves not as observers of nature, but as an intrinsic part of it. | She experiments with both historical and contemporary photographic and printing techniques, embracing the abundance of possibilities available to us today. At the same time, she consciously chooses to also work with existing and unused materials, giving them new life. In this way, her working process becomes part of the question she raises: how can we create differently, with a greater awareness of our place within the living world? |
