USA Honorable Mention Nude Amateur "Relaxed Lythe Form" "My love of photography began with an interest in astronomy," Monson says, "When I was 12, I would sneak off with my parent's Konica 35mm and take long exposures of the stars. I was amazed at how the camera could capture light invisible to my eyes." Growing up in the quiet, serene foothills of Southern Alberta, Canada, he was never short of photographic opportunities and his passion for the landscape grew. He decided to study photography and art history at a small Idaho college. From there he attended Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a BFA in photography. Monson received several scholarships and awards, his most recent being a grant for photographic studies of ancient subjects in Ireland, the British Isles and France. In process of time, Monson discovered the photographic possibilities of the human form. "The elegant perfection of the female figure has endless creative potential. It reveals many aesthetic parallels with that of the natural landscape - the genre which captivated me in my youth" |
