"Tumbling Glacier"
The vast majority of glaciers around the world are currently receding, leaving behing nothing but traces of their former supremacy. This magnificent "Tumbling Glacier" lit by the morning sun is seen here reflected in Crater Lake. The photograph was taken during an eight-day trek through Akshayuk Pass in Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island in July of 2009. This remote and pristine national park is considered to be one of the crown jewels of Canada. Although well known among the Inuit who have inhabited Baffin Island for thousands of years, many people outside of Nunavut have little knowledge about this place. Climbers, mountaineers and hikers predominate among the growing number of annual visitors to the park.
