UK Nominee Still Life Amateur "Washroom No. 27" Fort Brockhurst - Washroom No. 27 Philip Woolway ARPS Royal Photographic Society Philip began his photographic experience with film in the early 1990's but became an early adopter of the digital medium, recognising its versatility and the opportunity for experimentation. Combining his training with the Royal Photographic Society with his passion for capturing challenging and unusual imagery, Philip secured a position as the music photographer for Rant magazine where he was tasked to capture the exciting atmosphere of live music. The opportunity enabled him to photograph many leading acts and led to the publication of his images nationally and internationally, with Korg, USA selecting Philip's work as the sole imagery for a world-wide advertising promotion. During 2009 Philip embarked on a project to photographically document the disappearing traditional “junk shop” with their myriad of objects chaotically organised. Originally conceived as a short term work the project developed a more surreal and macabre direction as little known 'specialist' shops were discovered. Philip has been featured and numerous photographs published in both the Antiques Trade Gazette and the Antiques Explorer magazines. Philip's latest project is entitled, “Remnants of Defence”, which with the assistance of English Heritage is providing Philip with the opportunity to capture some of the mystery behind the Victorian coastal defence forts constructed under order of Lord Palmerston to defend ours shores from French invasion and contributed greatly to the make up of Portsmouth social history. |
