USA Nominee Still Life Amateur "Benched" Miami Children's Museum, Miami, Florida While growing up in Brooklyn, New York, I became very interested in photography at an early age. Using my neighbor’s basement darkroom, I developed, printed and enlarged my own images and also made greeting cards with my younger brother’s image on the front. Later, in my professional career as a Construction Executive, while under my supervision during their construction phase, I took photographs of hotels, convention centers, and shopping centers. Over the years, I have also taken photographs throughout the United States and while traveling abroad. In 2000, I switched from film to digital and since my retirement and relocation to Palmetto Bay, Florida in 2002, I have been able to devote more time to capturing images. Not only have I photographed locally at the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens, the Deering Estate at Cutler, and the Everglades National Park, I have participated in photographic workshops in Peru and Morocco. Also, I am a member of the Palm Beach Photographic Centre and Photoworkshop.com. Several of images have earned a number of awards both locally and internationally including nominations three years in a row from the very prestigious International Color Awards Photography Masters Cup and from the AIA Miami International Photographic Competition. I enjoy taking photographs of landscapes, buildings, people, animals, and flowers and I believe that there are subjects to photograph all around us. When I look at a landscape scene, my eye focuses on attractive compositions using the rule of thirds. There are times when I isolate a subject by placing it at one of the four corners of the image. When I photograph people, I like to fill the image frame with a head shot. I find capturing images of birds and butterflies in flight challenging, and close ups of flowers are always fascinating, especially to see their intricate details. My goal is to share my visions with others and if viewing my images gives someone pleasure, then I have achieved that goal |
