Joe Patronite
USA Honorable Mention Sport Professional "Bull Flying" After charging across ring, bull launches up the wall at bullfight. (Nogales, Sonora, MEX) Joe Patronite has traveled the world as a photographer, documenting, illustrating and producing imagery for over twenty-five years. Honors while at university include top placements in The College Photographer of the Year, and a finalist in the William Randolph Hearst photojournalism competition. From 1979 to 1984 Joe Patronite worked as a staff photographer for The Arizona Daily Star-Patronite was chosen as a New Face nominee by American Photo magazine, and took top honors in Arizona and National photojournalism competitions. In 1981 Patronite was nominated for the first time for The Pulitzer Prize in photography 1984 brought a new position of staff photographer at The Dallas Times Herald Patronite was the first photographer into and anchored the staff coverage of the Mexico City earthquake in 1986 garnering a staff nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in news photography. Another long-term photo-essay, this one on cranial facial surgery procedures done in the United States and the Soviet Union brought a third nomination, and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Photography. After twenty years based in Dallas Texas, Patronite chose to return to Tucson, Arizona in 2004. His work continues in magazine and advertising, with emphasis on the travel, resort and spa industry. A six-month photo essay, entitled � Who We Are Now� was commissioned in 2007�and photographed into 2008 at the University of Arizona Health Science Center and Medical College. Exploring new media, using his iPhone camera has been the latest project for Joe Patronite. |
