Manoosh the boatman who works ferrying passengers across the Yamuna river in India stands waiting for a fare as the sun sets in the distance. I was taking images of the reflection of the Taj Mahal when Manoosh came across the river to see if I needed a ride. He made the perfect subject As I raised my camera He said "Take my photo" I obliged, and am very happy I did ! I returned 5 years later to give Manoosh a copy. And there he was sat by the Taj Mahal waiting for a fare. Mamiya 645.

"In a Beating of Wings, Paris 2010"
Everything is relative, everything passes quickly: what yesterday seemed avant-garde (the modern form of the Eiffel Tower, Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889) compared to the classical forms of the bronze statues at the Esplanade (even if they are of 1937) is now already 2 centuries ago. A statue looks forward, the middle one is turned to look back, a pigeon in flight passes between the Eiffel Tower and the statue that looks to the future, everything goes .. in a beating of wings.Fine Art Ink Jet Carbon Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Bright White, from Negative Hasselblad. "Flying Tiger, from the "Night Journey" series"
This series explores dreams and memory and provides pictorial access to the unconscious. Using the shadow as metaphor, I enjoy creating works that portray a sense of surprise and wonder that in turn conjure up childhood imaginings, fairy tales and nightmares. By using mythic characters and incongruous objects, I delve into the fantastic to create phantomlike tableaux’s that capture lost and forgotten fragments of experience and emotion. The inspiration came from an inquiry into the subconscious. Using myself as subject, I was tape recorded in a sleep laboratory while awakened from REM sleep to gain access to the subconscious. The laboratory audio recordings were used as inspiration to create the photographs for this series. The gestures and narratives are created by photographing shadows of models and props in my studio using a 4x5 view camera with a digital back.
